Difference in Boxelder vs Elm seed bugs
Boxelder bugs
Boxelder bugs are small, black insects with distinctive red markings on their bodies. They primarily feed on the seeds of boxelder, maple, and ash trees. In the fall, these bugs seek warm shelter for the winter and often congregate on the sides of homes and buildings. While they are not harmful to humans or structures, they can be a nuisance due to their tendency to invade homes in large numbers.
Elm Seed Bugs
Elm seed bugs are very similar to Boxelder bugs, however they are generally about half the size and do not have red markings on their body. Instead, they have a very distinct brown or black triangle on their back. They behave very similar and feed on the same plants. These tiny guys can find just about any gap in your home’s seal and get inside! Treating for these pests year over year can significantly reduce their numbers.
